1 Chron. 25 Prophetic Music

Tucked in this chapter of genealogy of “the sons of Asaph, of Heman and of Jeduthun” we discover a form of prophecy that continues to be a great blessing; that of “prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals.”

This isn’t the first time we have such a record. 2 Kings 3:15 where Elisha had a minstrel play and he released the prophetic. Prophetic music is good in and of itself; however prophetic music also is a means by which the prophetic is stirred and released to fulfill the purpose of prophecy. The primary purpose is to “edify” the church. When we build up others with utterance that is divinely inspired by the Lord and released through us by His Holy Spirit, it is always profitable for everyone.

As you read the numbers involved in this expression of prophecy, you can see immediately that David and the Lord were serious about it. May we take such encounters as serious as well.
