Discipline of the Lord

Psalm 66: 12  You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.

Reading the previous verses the Psalmist recounts times of the correction of Israel.  Correction, discipline is never easy.  As difficult and challenging as it is, there is a benefit.

Even though Israel had endured great affliction and chastisement, the Lord brought them “out”! To go to anywhere we must first be brought out.   Not just “out”, but into something else; a place of abundant quenching (the literal translation) or “rich fulfillment”.

That is the Lord’s purpose when we’re disciplined; not to take “away” but to bring us “into” a place of abundance.  Every decision or act we make begins with a thought.  When thoughts enter our minds that are counter to the purposes of God, we repent immediately and bring every thought captive to Him.

Abundance of peace, abundance of joy, overflow of hope and strength of faith that quenches our thirsting lives.
