A Response to Deliverance
Psalm 40: 3 He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord.
The “new song” of the Psalmist is in response to having been delivered out of the pits of despair and depression during the time David was being pursued by Saul and the dismay of Ziklag.
Our response on the back side of being delivered often reveals the inner depths of our heart, as you’ll discover in this Psalm. Opposed to blaming God and questioning as to all the “whys”, the Psalmist responds with a “new song” which focuses on Praise to God; praising for deliverance, liberty and freedom.
In addition to elevating and magnifying the Lord in post deliverance, there is a redemptive result as well, “Many will see …..and will trust in the Lord.” We are being observed by those who are facing similar trials and temptations that we’ve been delivered from; when they see our consistent unfeigned love for the Lord THROUGH the pit, they will respond to His love, grace and mercy.
Sing that New Song!
