Why Satan Fell
June 23
What was Satan’s primary responsibility before his fall? Ezekiel gives us insight as he gives prophetic judgment concerning the king of Tyre in chapter 28.
Ezekiel 28:14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire.”
Scholars agree that this prophetic word describes part of Satan’s responsibilities in heaven. That Satan had open access to the Presence of God.
What brought about his fall?
Ezekiel 28:15 – 18 list several reasons for his fall.
- Unrighteousness was found in him.
- He was filled with violence.
- Pride filled his heart.
- Multitude of iniquity was found in him and he profaned the heavenlies.
These were character flaws discovered in someone that dwelled in the manifest presence of God. We cannot afford to assume because we’re close to God, that we’re immune to things that would bring destruction to our lives.
These can be stood against in prayer, but also through being accountable to one another and for one another.
