Who Is God Looking For?
June 22
What kind of man, what kind of woman is God looking for? One that has a heart after God, as David; one that will worship in spirit and in truth are great answers; but Ezekiel gives us another quality that God seeks for.
Ezekiel 22:30 I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.”
God looked for “a man” that would intercede, “stand in the gap,” for Jerusalem, for Israel so that judgment could be averted, but God couldn’t find “one.”
God’s primary concern is for people. We know that “land” often refers to “people,” but know that God’s concerned about the land too. He gave the responsibility of stewardship of the land to man, the prize of His creation. Think, it took God several days to create the “land” for its inhabitants and only one day for the creation of man himself.
It is Biblically correct to pray for the “land” as part of our intercession and the things that affect it. Things like drought being broken, fires stopped, earthquakes, tornados and hurricanes stopped that bring destruction to the “land.” Because God made those for the benefit of man and He wants us to enjoy the “land.”
Note, He doesn’t need a large number to “stand in the gap,” He only needs “one.” Several years ago, thousands of men stood on the mall in Washington, D.C. standing in the gap for our nation. Only eternity will reveal the benefits and blessings released by that time. Yet, God is still looking for and seeking out “a man” that will take that kind of stand, a stand of being in the “gap” for his family, neighborhood, church, city and nation.
This isn’t “gender exclusive.” God looks for men and women that will stand in the gap, but I want to encourage men to stand in the gap. Every church needs men that will not only serve as ushers and greeters, but men that will pray and stand in the gap.
Will you be one that will “stand in the gap?”
