Acceptable Words
Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Words have great power, they can sustain and strengthen or sink us! David and other Psalmist as did Solomon penned a lot about words. Our words have power to bring healing, hope and courage to fellow travelers in the journey of life. Even for future generations through written or recorded means.
I’m a “wordy” person, most ministers are; which presents a dilemma as we craft our words to communicate, hoping they’ll bring light, hope; inspiring faith and trust. For that to happen our words must be accepted by the hearers. However there’s a higher responsibility. Are my words and thoughts (the seed bed of words) acceptable to God? That’s a sobering thought. Not just the words used in a teaching forum, but words in day to day conversation.
Later David penned a way to aide in assuring His acceptance of our words; “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Ps. 141:3)
Praying these daily assists in speaking acceptable words for His ears and others as well.
