Hastening the Day of the Lord

2 Peter 3: 11, 12a  Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God.

Our mind set as the “day of the Lord” approaches and its sooner rather than later – hopefully; ought to have focus on the eternal vs temporal.  Determined to be steadfast and ongoing growth in the knowledge and grace of the Lord; these are characteristics of one is a hastener.

Yet, how can we “hasten the day of the Lord”.  As to what the “day of the Lord” refers to, whether the end of time or return of the Lord will likely continue to be a matter of opinion based on one’s theology.

There is one thing I am certain of must occur for either view point is global propagation of the Gospel.

Matthew 24:14  And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Jesus responding to three questions by the disciples as to when all the prophecies He had mentioned concerning Jerusalem’s demise and “the sign of Your coming and the end of the age”, gives a number of clues in His response.

One unequivocal condition is the Gospel of the Lord Jesus being preached “in all the world”.

Do you want to hasten the day of the Lord?  Be involved with global evangelism, including local evangelism with family, friends and neighbors.  If you can’t “go”, then “send”!

Let’s be among those that hasten the day of the Lord!
