Is There Any Help?
Psalm 53: 6 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.
Viewing the culture and the downward spiral of values that the media portray as the majority (but it isn’t), one can’t help but wonder “Is there any help?”
King David asked a similar question as he viewed the moral decline of the contemporary culture of his day. His plea, his hopeful question was that it would come from Zion, the City of God. This chapter is linked to the previous in timing. The situation looked bleak and foreboding as David saw his beloved nation slipping deeper into bondage and enslavement. In the midst of this the question is posed “where’s God?”
This is a prophetic Psalm calling for Messiah to come forth, restoring joy and abundance to Israel once people of God are liberated and walk in their freedom.
Our culture today is at a similar cross-road with a cry for the dilemmas to be resolved by God’s people, the Church. As in David’s time, so it is in ours. When God’s people realize they have been liberated and walk in that liberty, there will be joy and gladness in the Church.
Yes, there is help! His name is Jesus living in and through His Church!
