Keep Your Heart
Gal. 6:9 let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
With all the distractions in our society, we need to keep our hearts rather than losing our hearts. Whether news from Washington, Wall Street, Ukraine, London, state capitals, across town or across the street; distractions come that would cause us to “lose heart”.
Solomon’s admonition is relevant today as it was when this Proverb (4:23) was penned, “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” But how does one “keep their heart?”
The next verse gives insight as “how to” keeping our hearts; “Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.” (NLT) Words we speak have the power of life and death – or prompting weariness.
Declaring the Word of the Lord; reading, meditating, confessing is essential. Setting our hearts on His Word by a daily habit of getting in His Word will enable us to “keep our heart with all diligence”. It just doesn’t happen, it happens when we’re “diligent” about it.
His Word brings peace, hope, strengthens faith, builds up and keeps us on track with our thinking as we bring every thought captive to His truth first.
Keep your heart!
