Resisting Impulsiveness

Psalm 58: 9 I will wait for You, O You his Strength; For God is my defense.

Many of the self-inflicted woes I’ve experienced are a result of having been impulsive; taking things into my hands, reacting on impulse rather than responding in/by the Spirit.  It often occurs when we succumb to the tyranny of the urgent.  Few of our life determining decisions are urgent.

Perceived urgency is often a set up to see the depth of commitment to the purposes of the Lord for our lives.

Impulsiveness prompts reactions that too often increase the infection of self-centeredness.

Every challenge, thought, confrontation or accusation is followed by a moment when we either opt to react in the flesh or respond by waiting on God.  When the Lord is our strength and we willing “wait” for Him; He will ALWAYS be our defender.

Waiting on Him is to hedge ourselves with His Word, His Spirit and His timing.  Impulsiveness often enlarges the situation, creating a bigger problem.

WAIT!
