Your Race

Heb. 12:1, 2a Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,

Each of us have a “race set before us”.  One of my challenges is paying more attention to other races, often neglecting the “set before” me!  There are others running in the race of life, hopefully arriving at the finish line being embraced by the Lord; but their race isn’t my race.

The heavenly spectators cheering me on could be wondering “What is he doing? He’s run out of his lane captivated by another’s race.”  Running the “race set before” me requires vigilance to remain in my lane, not another’s.

Constant reminders that this “race” isn’t a competition are essential for the Crown that awaits us. Could it be that mind set one of the weights?

I don’t every recall an Olympian running a race, sprint or marathon, in a ski parka.  Running with this race with excess weight that has already been carried by the Lord Jesus at Calvary becomes a snare.  Loose that weight and be free, stay free!

One of the great blessings of staying in my lane is divine resources to endure and finish the race.  The key is to maintain focus on He Who empowers me to finish the race.  And not “just by the skin of my teeth”; rather crossing in victory!
